Visual Communication -Book Review
Back Of A Napkin – Solving Problems and Selling Ideas with Pictures by Dan Roam
Using visual communication techniques to show and explain problems isn’t new but but Dan Roam has gone further by codifying visual thinking. Showing us tools to visually break down complex problems into their component elements and build solutions the same way, makes this a must for any visual thinker.
Visual Communication Case Study
The best part about Back Of A Napkin is the case study that runs through the second half of the book showing exactly how to use the visual codex (a visual communication matrix)introduced in the first half. The book is a quick read but…learning to apply the techniques will take a little longer. The potential to use pictures to sell ideas to clients is huge.
I would recommend a physical copy of this book, so you can annotate it, to every designer.
